Me

Hello world and welcome to my blog!

I grew up in the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) foster care system for as far as I can remember. I had several placements; residing in relatives and foster homes before exiting out at the age of 18. I was eventually adopted at the age of 21, I know who gets adopted as an adult? There’s a story behind that which I will eventually share as well as what I experienced in these homes :-)

I’ve experienced motherhood at an early age, domestic violence, homelessness, blended family issues, parenting struggles, mental health issues and loss.

Despite these challenges, I obtained a Bachelors degree and then a Masters. I secured employment through DFCS and eventually promoted to a Children’s Social Worker (CSW). Growing up, I saw how hard my CSW worked so I never wanted to go down the same path but at the time of promotion, I was at a dead end position and did not see any growth potential. However, I also knew I would be able to offer more than just a CSW that never experienced the system first hand as a client.

I’ve  worked in emergency response, continuing services, as a dependency investigator and most recently a new position, which is my most favorite position with the county thus far. I don’t want to reveal my position just yet, but i’m still on the frontline.

Besides parenting, being a CSW has been the most difficult yet rewarding position I’ve ever held. I’ve been a proud CSW for the past seven years. Yes, I said proud. Proud because I have made a difference in families and children lives, made lasting relationships, reunified families and helped them to navigate this overwhelming system. No, we don’t make a difference for everyone we come in contact with, but if you are blessed you will make a difference for at least 1 or 2 people and that makes all the difference. I believe wholeheartedly that I was meant for this job and it feels good to walk in my purpose.
